tried to locate the discussion we had a few months ago re: climate change, global warming, or whatevah its referred to this month - but part of it revolved around snowpack in the mountains in the western US....
mr steve will remember this one, i'm quite sure, but... anyway....
having returned recently from my usual rockies excursion (with a 3week sidetrip to NH, which didnt go near as well as i'd hoped it would, quite sadly, but at least the skiing was good at wildcat, where, BTW - they had full cover/midwinter conditions, top to bottom, right thru march into april)
anyway...
eye happened to note the exceedingly generous deposits of the white stuff at all the mountains i rode this year and i must tell you, EYE HAVENT SEEN SNOW COVER LIKE THIS IN YEARS, and _late_ into the season as well - how deep and late, might y'all be wondren???
hows this:
snowbird: season total accum: 754" and counting, with nearly 4feet so far _this_ week alone? with a midmtn base depth reported at 15+feet - 3rd week of may?
mammoth: 660" so far, with 4th of july for a close (kinda typical for them tho)
current base depth: 11-19feet still sittin there
mt bachelor: 648" on the season, 13-15feet of base
a-basin in CO: 11new, appx 8foot base, projected close mid june
heard snowpack reported in CO upwards of 135% of normal?
and there's this bit of evidence that perhaps we dont need to strangle the US economy over 'projections' of snowless winters any time soon:
just sayin....
