Re: Soldier in Iraq Loses Home Over $800 Debt

Sad story, but his wife fucked up big time, no?
Are you as clueless as you come across as?
There are all kinds of chemical treatment for depression and most start working within a week or so.
    Apparently, the answer is yes.

Sorry to make my first post so banal, but I had to weigh in. Guy goes to Iraq to fight in a war I'd venture to guess he doesn't even believe in, doing convoy duty, no less, one of the most dangerous. Wife, who is dealing with a sick kid, falls into deep depression from the anxiety and stress, and stops opening the mail because she's afraid she'll hear her husband got his face blown off from an IED. Home is foreclosed on and sold out from under her by a bunch of heartless, greedy scumbags.

Yeah, she totally should have drugged herself. That would have solved everything. What was she thinking?

    Anyway, thanks iTulip. Y'all rock.

    Peace.

Welcome to iTulip (as a poster).

No need to apologize as long as you're respectful of your fellow members. When I read that the $300K house was sold for $3,500 I couldn't believe my eyes. I'll bet the house was sold for $250K again. MALFEASANCE is showing itself everywhere in America, and other countries as well I guess. Property rights and due process must be one part of the "stool legs" in any civilization.

It continues to get "sporty" out there.

You ever go to a tax lien sale? The ones I've been to previously, you bid on what you would pay for the house if the owner fails to pay his back taxes (plus, at the time, 18% annual interest). If you got "lucky" you could end up getting somebody's house for cheap. At worst, you make a guaranteed 18% on you investment.

Re: Soldier in Iraq Loses Home Over $800 Debt

Orlav nailed it. US/SU comparisons are very accurate. After the collapse, my parents took immediate ownership of the 2 bedroom apartment where we were living, all free and clear. Many people still have "dacha" which is a garden outside the city where you could grow your food. This was very important and still is. I also remember how Gorbachev voided all of the 100 rouble bills at 9 PM when all stores were already closed. The reason given was: most of these bills are in the hands of mafia (does that sound familiar? UK and 500 euro bills). That's how most peoples savings who had it in cash evaporated. And then there was hyperinflation. There was no credit inside the USSR, thus the hyperinflation took away real savings people had. I remember lots of other things in great detail including the ones that fall under category 5, but I choose not to share them.

All this plus Itulip's advise and I am prepared for the next collapse.

Opportunism and predation at it's very worst. Seems more and more the way American business operates nowadays, especially governments. I'm much more shocked about the HOA taking the soldier's house than I am about the lady in Baltimore losing her house over a water bill.

Shocked that the HOA would do it? Or shocked that the HOA had the authority?

Seems to me that the HOA would have been more apt to listen to reason and accept a late payment with some type of penalty rather than just go right after the poor guy's house given the circumstances.
At least that was my experience when dealing with my father's HOA while he was going through a medical issue that required a lengthy hospital stay. All I did was simply explain to them his situation and tell them that they would get their money, just a bit late. They tacked on a 10% penalty and accepted payment nearly 90 days late without question. I thought that was how all HOA's operated. Apparently I was wrong :P

Government on the other hand I would fully expect to be this underhanded. They're a bunch of jackals IMO.
