Just wait until our housing bubble burst (btw, not that the "guardian.co.uk" is remotely a serious source!)

            LOL.

Comedian Dave Barry once described Canada as "technically a country".

Ever asked a Canadian what is it that defines Canada?

After a lot of mumbling and fumbling the answers usually boil down to "Well, we aren't Americans". :-)

Yeah they have some wonderful ladies too.

Fiat Currency that is a great trout man. You flyfish? And that deer is some kind of big! I've only been to Canada twice, both times flying into Vancouver and driving to Kamloops. A spectacular drive and sometime I hope to go back to do some exploring instead of hustling around on business. Beautiful country.

I fly-fish every day I can in the summer, and being semi-retired with a portfolio on auto-pilot ... that's a lot of days!! I just got back from the mountains fishing cut-throat trout today.

That Brown Trout is my best so far this year. 24 inches and chunky. I took the photo while my friend held him over the net. He was actually caught May 30th on this tiny caddis fly pattern ...

                    Caddis.jpg

... which is sitting next to that ultimate symbol of Canadian fiat currency debasement ... our cancelled penny.

The mule deer was nice ... and I snuck up pretty close to him to get that photo (my family is sending many compliments). It's too bad that I had left my camera in the drift boat when I saw a 14 pointer the day before.

Now here's a fun fact ... both the deer and the trout were "caught" inside the city limits of Calgary I also spend a lot of time in the Rockies thanks to my tricked-out Jeep.

Now forgive me ... I have to comment on Mega's "Ladies" question. Mega, us experienced fly-fishers have a phenomenon in Calgary we call the "bikini hatch". This time of year, many ladies are "floating" down the river in their bikinis on tire tubes, canoes, kayaks ... everything. They are very friendly and often make for great audiences when we're fighting a big trout. I can assure you many of them are good looking. Perhaps you should come for a visit, and I'll take you fly-fishing.

I remember EJ saying something to the effect of ... don't get macro-fatigue. Get out, enjoy life because it's short, and take some pictures.

That's been my motto for 2 years now.

If you're ever up this way Will ... I'd be happy to take you fly-fishing.

                      20 July 2012

Median Wealth And Those Wealthy Canadians

This chart on Median Wealth is making the rounds, from an article in the Washington Post based on a recent report on global wealth from Credit Suisse.

Please note that this is median wealth, not total and not per capita.

Americans' first reactions seem to be, 1. Australia is in a housing bubble and they'll get theirs, and 2. we're less well off than Canada?! No one likes to see their little brother doing better than they are.

I think Australia is in the China bubble overall, and there may be some decline in the cards there.

But since this is median wealth, a more useful comparison would be to look at the difference between median and average for each country, to get a better idea of how each nation's public policy decisions have been affecting total wealth distribution, and additionally compare that to growth vector.

Perhaps if I get amibitious I will do it. Here is the original Credit Suisse report.

Here is the original article that sourced this chart from the Washington Post. Are Canadians Richer Than Americans?

The only change I made to this chart from the Washington Post was to redo the names in a larger font, for those who are not adept at reading the original micro-print.
