Obama's an empty suit for Wall Street and the TBTFs. My take on the election is the fix is in - stated more than once on the 'tulip. More to the point, my take is we're stuck in a one-party system - neoliberal - with a dog and pony show for the sheeple. Not sure where you're reaching that conclusion, Shake.

I dunno Lektrode about your questions. I've got my own foundational questions of course, but I thought I'd just make the pitch for why this article seemed so chilling to me. It's because it suggests an endgame with a recent precedent (MF Global), a mechanism by which Wall Street's latest scandal was prepared (the 2005 bankruptcy law) and which also explains the massive and - to my mind hitherto unexplained, in compelling terms - growth in the derivatives markets that place counter parties at the front of the line in the coming collapse of the massive game of leverage that has seemed to replace what we used to call finance.

This article struck me as one of those shots in WWii movies where you follow the bomb to it's target and then not explode. After having watched this disaster for years, reading this article is like watching the propeller on the bomb spin like mad from inertia, then almost imperceptibly sound uncertain, tentative, then... stopped.

      Kaboom.

        +1

even if we diverge at times, don, methinks your conclusion is right on the money
but mstr shake i think knows we're 'all on the same team' - as EJ puts it - just perhaps diff POV on 'how we got here'
        (esp HERE: http://www.itulip.com/forums/showthr...ooting-Gallery )

and discussing all this stuff couldnt possibly be more entertaining
(and _then_ there's all the graphix/youtubemovies... just for 'special effect' )

and that is why, oh learned/experienced one, that i'm particularly interested in _your_ POV
tho we might appear to be on opposite sides of the fence, as i mentioned to don/mstr shake, i do believe we all would like to see more or less the same changes and/or outcome to the challenges that we face as fellow passengers on this train we've all been riding on (the past dozen or so years, at least)

adding: and as i've mentioned a time or 2, i dont get my news from the sources that some might think i would (hint: foxnews, nor cnn or cnbc) i tend to read what i may not agree with, believe it or not.

This cartoon, despite its origins and intent, is a perfect fit for the bank trip wire piece, in the sense that tax cuts aid greatly in transferring the load from taxation to debt, helping to turn FIRE into the colossus its become. When you grasp that - and Hudson's been a great help - you're off the gerbil wheel - still caged but capable of seeing more and perhaps making a decision or two in your own fiscal defense.

The cartoons and links you post are almost always aimed at Republicans. You're part of the problem, Don.

How is that? By rightfully criticising one of the parties? And as he said above he's critical of the other party too.
In my opinion, you're really off your rocker here..

I'd go as far as saying that anyone who gets upset at a party's criticism (either one) is 'part of the problem'.

Don't know what the "big club" is.

All I'm saying is that no matter what the issue is, Don posts are aimed at one party. I think we have a bi-partisan clusterfuck and the ones getting screwed the most are those in the middle.

I think C. H. Smith hit the nail on the head with this essay.

Partisan politics, in 2011 USA, are so f**king pointless- see the above. I have friends that are bound hand-and-foot to either the Democrats or the Republicans. Everything they hear is filtered through an echo chamber bolted to their heads. If I criticize the latest outrage by the banksters, according to my "conservative" friend, I'm attacking the GOP. I know, go figure - but see the above. Obama could firebomb Denver and my classic "liberal" friend's support - more like excuses - would never waver. An excellent point is made in today's post - Privacy - A Cellophane Citizenry - that points out the pitfalls of the red state/blue state idiocy. Not as humorous as Carlin but on the money.

                              yep, precisely
ole chuck there really knows his stuff and has a nice clear thinking process with which to articulate his POV (and i'm not just saying that because he lives here in hawaii, where it can be very difficult to sort people by party or ideology)

and i also think don picks on both parties more or less equally, so why be pickin on him?
