hey, all you 'silver's not a bubble... it'll be back over $50 in a coupla weeks' folks, after exiting silver at the top @ $49 & making 11x on a 10 yr trade, ej's up 26% shorting the silver crash...

What's interesting is, that the current 'silver down days' also are days on which other commodities do very badly, and gold declines too (but much less). And DXY goes up on these days. Seems like the 'underlying mechanism of the market' that causes these changes is just more pronounced in silver (more leverage at play?) than in other commodities.

So what's the underlying cause of these fluctuations? days on which investors suddenly price in the end of QE? On which they expect a sovereign default in the euro area that causes a domino effect? Especially the days in between that show an exact reverse make me think the whole market is acting very schizophrenic these days...

You should look at how increasing price for oil results in increasing supply: shale oil, coal to liquids, CNG, etc etc.

Sure, in the long run fossil fuels will run out.

Equally in the long run we're all dead.

In the foreseeable future, the iTulip thesis makes complete sense: it isn't that oil is running out and we'll all be fighting each other for the gasoline in our tanks and the meat on our bones. It is that the increases in demand coupled with poor resource management will cause massive economic oscillations.

I was just thinking this morning that I miss him. Always posted fascinating stuff, though often a bit inscrutable.
