What do you think about the strategy of of buying a put call on slv instead of selling the physical. It would have been cheaper. and I would still have my physical. I don't know what the call premium was on 4/29. I took 13% hit vs. spot on the Apmex sale. Additionally, put is taxed at short term capital gains. Silver at 28%. A june $34 on SLV is going for roughly 1.7 or 5%. Of course if your timing is wrong, you will have to pay another 5% in June to roll your option.

When it comes time to sell our gold will it be a good strategy to buy a GLD put? It may buy you 30 days to dump
your physical. Do I have to worry about a counterparty in an options transaction? And if the myth that GLD has no
gold is really true, then your put will become even more valuable than the loss in spot gold, as GLD will be zero and
thus your put option would theoretically be worth the strike price.

but... but... but central banks are the enemy!

ergo owning gold = siding with the enemy!

oh, wait. volcker sez 'gold is the enemy'.

eh... we know here gold = the asset cb's have to hold because they don't trust their own lamo system.

too complicated for mad max & his posse.

hope the 'asshanding by jp morgan' was worth it for them to enjoy 6 months fantasizing how they'd beat the house.

I'd think the problem with being short paper and long physical is that you can't use one to cover the other.

You essentially end up with 2 somewhat related investments - identical substrate but radically different execution times, and of course the paper side has far higher fees.

If, on the other hand, you have short term vs. long term investments, then paper might make sense.

ZSL was an amazing performer last week even though it sucks 95% of the rest of the time.

Of course, I hope we are learning about how it's going to go when Gold does go into it's bubble phase. Especially in a world of paper gold and double short etf.

Given that a good portion of iTulipers must be in bullionvault, I've always wondered how the gold dump would go.

At a minimum, it will be complicated for BV. Lot's of outflows, EJ is right, the time to sell (at least begin to) is during the panic buying.

Despite the silliness of the video, one wouldn't have done bad had they followed the advice the guy gives. He says those 10oz bars were selling for $200 at the time he made the video, and suggests buying them at that price. Anyone who did, and didn't sell, would still be up over 50%. Worst case, he owns them at our buyback price.

I wonder what he was saying when silver was at $45?

Exactly. From all the crowing you'd think all these folks had lost their life savings.

People called me foolish for buying Gold at $900. Said I was a late comer. Ripe for a busted bubble. But I read Itulip.com, I know Gold is different! You can't blame some for wanting to see the same thing happen in silver.

My guess is that guy was still going strong when Silver was at $45.

This should have tipped off everyone
