My wife tells me the grocery coupons have dried up.

    Stealth, baby.

I was fairly annoyed with our main grocery store when they started doubling only up to 99 cents instead of a dollar. I have noticed I haven't received grocery store coupons for $1 off the produce or meat section in a long time. The store coupons have definitely slowed way down.

that and oufits like safeway - that trumpeted their 'clubcards' a few years back as eliminating the need to clip/save coupons?

now ya need the coupon, the clubcard AND a minimum purchase to get the discounts!

also noted in their just opened store that prices appear to have been jacked up across the board to pay for it - tho i have been in low priced areas lately, so the return to 'paradise' has me suffrin acute 'sticker shock syndrome'

Some Amazon customers are complaining about downgrades in quality.

Then tell me why I have to pay AUD$ 230.00 for a pro walker down here (in US$ in the US my currency would pay 9% less) Last time I paid US$ 69.00 in Denver
Tell me Why I have to pay AUD$ 32,800 for a Harley Davidson Fat boy down here when they are US$15,999 (AUD $14,576) over there and only the front headlight reflector has to be changed
          Toyota Camry same double cost.
          even a Mickey Ds is AUD$ 7.50.
Ben the " Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result" Bernake should rethink his dollar depreciation because it just not happening on the shop floor.
In other news - it upsets me to find out that Superman has his doubts. Is nothing sacred any more.
I would wonder what is the price in US$ of RM Williams
          http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/wash...4e8824ade8970d.
Now don't start in- Clark Kent may have had enough of his swingers being touched up by the TSA or He just might have been unable to find or alter his birth certificate. My bet is he is just reading the internet way too much and has come to the realization that the place is just corrupt beyond redemption so he is getting the Hell out of Dodge.
In other News - Japan has an even bigger problem - EXCEL will not allow them to "print" the Quadrillion figure they now require. Microsoft will have a fix shortly, followed as usual by many updates.
Yes I've been at a wake - but the news De jour is more depressing.
I would wonder what the price of RM Williams Boots is in US$ - I'm just guessing but for the best boots in the World they are probably cheaper over there than here. I have purchased only three. All still exist over 40 years in various states of use. Current price in Australia is AUD $350.00 for most styles except Kangaroo skin as they are (well) special order from Adelaide SA and will last for 70 years(your life out).. they are Aussie slippers and if I had 1000 pairs I could sell them in the US, in any city, in one day for full price.

The retail squeeze is definitely either ratcheting up or fatigue is setting in. Yesterday we did our weekly grocery shopping at a small chain we've been patronizing for a few years.

Self-serve soups have been cut from a choice of 4 to 1.

The "Chinese" takeout deli is now self-serve (more accurately self-burn) and a fall-off-the-cliff in quality.

Napkins, spoons, etc. have been taken out of the self-serve deli area. It seems too many people were selecting food, eating it in the store, and not paying for it.

How much of a real increase in this type of shrinkage, and how much of this is profit margin panic, who knows. It does make for a less friendly environment. (the Big Boss and I would eat a soup or an egg roll while filling our cart with groceries, always paying at the checkout. It was our Saturday lunch treat)

Half a dozen items we buy were eliminated from their inventory, an ongoing trend.

And, of course, prices continue to jump. The Big Boss now shops for a growing list of items elsewhere.

We would not be surprised to see this Fortune 500 "Best Place to Work" chain go under in the next year or two, barring a "return to prosperity".

we finally got a GOOD SOURDOUGH bread baker out here sometime last year
an 'artisanal' quality 24oz loaf of purrfection was priced 4.89 on prev purchase in late feb
price on wed: 5.49 for a 21oz loaf
              so lets see...
              12% less for 12% more = 23% increase?
and the bernank sez: DAMN THE TORPEDOS, FULL SPEED AHEAD?

JUST HOW MANY MORE BILLIONS WILL THE BANKSTER CLASS MAKE THIS YEAR AS THE DOLLAR GOES INTO A TAILSPIN?

Genuine sourdough east of the Rockies?

                I'm dubious. . . .

                Unreported inflation?

                I'm convinced . . . beyond a shadow of a doubt.

hell, i didnt even know what sourdough bread was till i went to the rockies the first time (aspen in 75, never had mexican food til jackson hole a few years later = 'exotic' for a NH mountain boy ;)

nope - the 'fruit of the breadgods' is found a bit west of them parts:

                  FOODIES REJOICE
The word is out on Mauna Kea Baking Company. Founded by Dr. Chris Miura, an ob-gyn whose passion for baking developed more than a decade ago, MKBC is proof positive that you needn’t travel abroad to experience ‘really good bread.’
“His sourdough loaves are legendary,” says master sommelier Chuck Furuya, whose Vino restaurant hosts monthly bread-and-wine tastings. “One reason why our patrons love his bread is the trademark mild sourdough flavor that pairs better with fine food and wine.”
