Re: Shouldn't they be buying silver ?
To me the most interesting part is the statement that "a raft of investment banks announced their intentions to launch ETFs this autumn". (The nature of the article implies these will be commodities ETFs.) I'm tending to think these days that if Wall Street focuses its efforts on creating a new speculative bubble (commodities?), then that's what they will achieve. Believing in the success of Wall Street's marketing efforts may be a better bet than accepting rational arguments from Jeremy Grantham or E.J. how the market is overvalued and destined to come down in the nearer term. And we know The Fed likes asset bubbles too. It also appears The Fed is desperate for that "consumer confidence" to rise, and we know that the performance of the market ties strongly to consumer confidence. Maybe instead of "Don't fight the Fed", as they used to say, maybe it should be "Don't fight the Fed-Wall Street Asset Bubble Complex". Maybe we'll get a full 4-year bull market this time after all. EDIT: Maybe I should say "Fed-Wall Street-Mainstream Media Asset Bubble Complex".Last edited by pianodoctor; December 05, 2010, 11:44 AM.
