Re: Nicole Foss (Automatic Earth)
We shall see. If you listen closely, you might find that she means something rather different by the word "deflation" than does, say, EJ. So far as my modest bovine brain can discern, they are not in critical disagreement with each other, rather just standing at different vantage points.Originally posted by LargoWinch View PostNicole's observations regarding Oil and deflation are wrong.
The word "deflation" has unfortunately become one of many terms that are over loaded with conflicting meanings. It seems that not just the word "Nazi" is subject to Godwin's Law.Most folks are good; a few aren't.

Possibly. And as TPC states, possibly not.Originally posted by LargoWinch View PostNicole's observations regarding deflation are wrong.
The crux of her deflation view is that eventually the bond market will call the Fed to account. We actually saw some early rumblings of the that with the QE2 announcement. How much of that is for real, I'm not certain.
The real problem is that nearly every major currency has *serious* problems. I think they'll all spiral down in a bonfire of the currencies -- reasonably stable to each other, but falling against gold.
At this point, I personally remained hedged for anything. Lots of PMs, RE, probably more cash than I'd like. My focus is not so much on making tons of cash (unless a serious opportunity opens right in front of me), but not making mistakes.

Re: Nicole Foss (Automatic Earth)
I didn't listen all the way through, but I got the impression that the crux of Nicole Foss's view focused more on physical resources (oil and commodities) than on bonds (debt paper.) She was expecting an unstable oscillation of resource availability and resource demand, due to the limitations of peak oil, a collapsing economy and a declining level of investment in energy discovery, production and infrastructure.Originally posted by jpatter666 View PostThe crux of her deflation view is that eventually the bond market will call the Fed to account.
This focus on the "real" (physical stuff, such as oil) rather than on the "paper" (bond markets) would fit Nicole's background. Most folks are good; a few aren't.

True. My point was in reference to other postings on the site and a direct question I once asked.Originally posted by ThePythonicCow View PostI didn't listen all the way through, but I got the impression that the crux of Nicole Foss's view focused more on physical resources (oil and commodities) than on bonds (debt paper.)
