  • Obama stands by controversial air security screening methods

Not surprising, Bush 2.0 when it comes to civil liberties and many other things...

Lisbon, Portugal (CNN) -- President Barack Obama stood by new controversial screening measures Saturday, calling methods such as pat-downs and body scans necessary to assure airline safety.
Speaking at a NATO press conference in Lisbon, Portugal, the president called the balance between protecting travelers' rights and their security a "tough situation."

From the end of that linked article:
"Every week I meet with my counterterrorism team and I'm constantly asking them whether -- is what we're doing absolutely necessary? Have we thought it through? Are there other ways of accomplishing it that meet the same objectives?" he said.
Well, you'd expect them to say that, wouldn't you?

at least Soros knows when it's getting out of hand

However, once The Examiner reported that George Soros owned the shares of the OSI Systems, Soros coincidentally sold all 11,300 shares of the company.
The Blaze writes, “A funny thing happened between Tuesday and Wednesday: the site detailing Soros’ OSIS investments now shows that Soros owns zero shares of the company.”
Hemingway responded to Soros’ abrupt decision to sell the shares:
It would be nice if he did this as a response to public pressure, but it seems equally likely that as an investor he simply realized the political tide was turning against the company and the stock may drop as a result.
To be fair, the sale of George Soros’ stocks is said to have taken place between July 1 and September 30:
The Blaze spoke with a representative from gurufocus.com, the site referenced by Hemingway and Media Matters. According to the representative, Soros owned the OSIS stock at the end of the second quarter and sold it under the third quarter. That puts the sale sometime between July 1 and September 30. The representative said the site first updated the information yesterday, which explains the change in the amount of stock owned.
Perhaps Soros’ connections at the very least encouraged the website to update the information immediately following The Examiner’s report.
Meanwhile, Rapiscan reportedly knows how to “play ball in Washington to increase its profits.” Facing obstacles related to dealing with homeland security, Rapiscan opened an office in Washington and hired a number of outside lobbyists and agency-specific federal marketing and sales staff, reports The Examiner. As a result, the company made $40 million in sales to the United States government, compared to $8 million in 2004.

The U.S. Presidency has become nothing more than a front. The only major politicians who could even imagine stepping outside those constraints are Ron Paul and perhaps Dennis Kucinich, and they simply will not be allowed, by whatever means necessary, to obtain that office and perform their duties true to their conscious and understanding.

I can't be sure whether or not our government is out of control yet, but it is certainly out of the control of we, the people.

I think it's been for quite some time... politicians are only getting braver in what atrocities they can commit out in the public...

Thanks for the kind wishes, Stetts, though I suspect I was a tad too clever in my reference to 12:30 PM, Dallas, November 21, 1963.

U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated then and there. I was born in another time and place, far away and long ago.

                    Take care.

I'm not sure which is creepier: body "pat downs" or the new xbox's ability to spy on the living room.

What comes next after full body scans or opting for a patdown?

                        Is there another level?

I'm talking about what they are going to introduce as the next safety measure, say in another three years.

I can think of a few possibilities:

-- Present your "papers": a national ID card
-- Pin-prick blood test to check for exposure to bomb-making chemicals, etc (or genetic background)
                          -- Disallow carryons all together
-- Require passengers to change into mandatory jump-suits
-- Hand-cuff everyone to their seats once in the plane
                          -- Mandatory sedation before flying
-- Extend the security perimeter well outside of the area near the boarding gate
-- Require personal background checks before being allowed to fly
-- Segregating certain "high-risk" passengers onto specific flights

The list goes on-and-on. After all, if the government's charter is to keep you safe, then there's no limit to the amount of civil liberties that you should be willing to give up, right? Even if the threat is invisible, yet supposedly global in scope/reach.

Longer than that... The problem now is that the sheeple are willing to allow the government to trample on their rights more and more...

Can it get any more brazen and arrogant?

OSI Systems Chief Executive Officer Joins US Presidential Visit to India
HAWTHORNE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- OSI Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSIS), a vertically-integrated provider of specialized electronic products for critical applications in the Security and Healthcare industries, today announced that Deepak Chopra, Chairman and CEO, was selected to accompany US President, Barack Obama, to Mumbai and attended the US India Business Entrepreneurship meeting, which was held by the US India Business Council (US IBC). The goal of the meeting was to promote further trade between US and India.

Deepak Chopra, OSI Systems President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "I am honored to be selected to play a role in this very important cause. Currently the trade between US and India is only one tenth of the amount of trade between US and China. There is substantial opportunity to improve the trade relations with India for mutual economic gain."

The US India Business Council is a business advocacy organization representing America's top companies investing in India, joined by global Indian companies, with an aim to deepen trade and strengthen commercial ties.
