  • Senate and Congress - vote in new rules

This is an email I received today from a friend. Since I agree with this idea, I thought I would post it. On the one hand it would not allow people to get entrenched and be permanent servants of either business or unions (they would not have time enough to do that). On the other, it would remove some of the disconnect and elitism that makes lawmakers try and do what they think is best for us (or them) when we may not agree.

    Here is the email verbatim.

I went into my address book and picked randomly one of you for each letter of the alphabetfficeffice" />
SOMETHING LIKE THIS COULD BRING THEM CLOSER TO THE PEOPLE AND BETTER GOVERNMENT?

THEY HAVE USED TERMS LIKE "GREATER TRANSPARENCY" AND "GREATER ACCOUNTABILITY"
THE CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT BELOW, IT SEEMS, WOULD KEEP OUR PUBLIC SERVANTS CONCENTRATION ON BETTER GOVERNMENT RATHER THAN "RE-ELECTION"

You're part of my 20 people,

hoping you will send this on
to your 20 so we get this
    out before November

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

If you agree with the following , forward it on.
    If not,"just PRESS delete!"

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!

    *********************************

    Congressional Reform Act of 2010

    1. Term Limits.

12 years only, one of the possible options below..

    A. Two Six-year Senate terms
    B. Six Two-year House terms
    C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

    2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

    3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

    4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

    5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

    7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

    8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.
The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators,
    serve your term(s),
then go home and back to work!

Re: Senate and Congress - vote in new rules

Someone just replied all to this email that I had just received, and told me that Massachusetts state senators (I dont know about state employees) also get to have their pensions without taxes when they receive them. Others in the private sector have to pay state taxes on their 401K withdrawals.

May be it is time for me to find a government job .... It appears that there is a way to make money on the side if you are careful and dont go overboard.
