So rather than blaming rich people for being productive, and thus skewing the income distribution, how about if we blame the importation of a "diverse" immigrant population incapable of earning high incomes?
Politically correct ideology limits the ability of most academics to see the truth, so the author can't necessarily be blamed for growing up in this anti-intelletual climate.

That said, the tide is turning. For instance, no one really questions the reality of ethnic nepotism within the most influential parts of the economy - banking and media. It is accepted by everyone but the most ardent PC ideologues. Then there is the rise of Obama that has bought ethnic group lobbying and competition to the public consciousness in a way never before imagined. So, fear not.

when the economy can "recover" and you've still got 20% unemployment something is AFU. We have outsourced the real economy and with it the middle class. Wall street has become a casino and the bankers own the government. Unless something drastic happens we will be a third world country.

Visit almost any city in upstate New York. Drive through the rural South. The same thing goes for the Midwest and West. The United States is a Third World country with a First World veneer. We have nukes. We can deliver a missile on any piece of dirt in the world but many of our people live in squalor.

We're merely transitioning from one form of societal control to another. Welcome to the MIC's Network Theory of Control for chaotic systems. Hence, society's transformation to a chaotic state - what Hudson refers to as Feudalism.

It's no accident that GATT was passed in the same year that the Internet was unleashed into the public domain. This was the primary inflexion point of this transition.

Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go.

No, my comment was not directed at you. It was directed against Mr. Schama.
I thought the hyperlink I posted would make that quite clear.

Sorry if there was any confusion.

                I think you're confusing your Schama's.
Simon Schama is a renowned historian (in the UK at least) and expert on the French Revolution. His book on the subject was actually perceived to be politically anti the French Revoulution and the terror. In the piece posted at the beginning of the thread he's just making the point that things (based on historical precedence) can get bad real fast if inequality on a grand scale continues. People won't revolt while income inequality exists but the majority have a nice standard of living. However if the majority have deteriorating standards of living but CEOs and bankers are seen making millions whilst preaching austerity then watch out.

But the link was to a bio of the editors at Dissident Voice, and nothing to do with the article by Simon Schama at Financial times the Yves Smith was referring to. That just added to my confusion.

Information is the tamer of Chaos and makes it our slave.

Hence, as information systems advance, through increases in open data systems, wider distribution of sensors on the edge, increased speed and granularity of feedback-control loops, advancements in control algorithm complexities, etc., then society can exist with increased entropy AND stability. The result is the break down of the Aristotelian model of stable order which has been dominant for around 1700 years, which is what we are witnessing now. It is quite deliberate, as this field of study is well understood within MIC think tank circles.

P.S. There is no single link nor suite of links that I can supply here that will demonstrate appropriate respect to this field of study.
