The U.S. is far from fascism but there are troubling signs. Fascism is not an event, it is the result of the process of a nation's citizens choosing to give up liberties in exchange for other government benefits. Citizens concede liberty ffor short term material quality of life, for example, or apparent safety.

You know you are living in a fascist state when you are afraid for yourself, your friemds or your family to even post the question as you have on this web site. Ask this question on a web forum in China, and there will shortly be a knock on your door. Not in the U.S. Not yet. But if that happens, much pain and suffering will be required to return to the point where such freedoms are again protected.

Short of having a fascist dictator who takes away freedom, what we in the American democracy experience is the on-going loss of freedoms because some abuse the freedom to the extent it impinges upon the welfare of others.

Would there be laws against drunk driving if no one had ever done it?

Would speeds in school zones be codified into law if people had the good sense to respect the lack of knowledge of school children when it comes to crossing streets? etc. etc.

Doctors, as an example of an endeavor that has not yet come under new laws, in this free country of ours are free to charge as much as they wish. The value of their time and services is based on their perceptions of their needs financially more than the value of their advice or services to those who ultimately are responsible for paying for them.

More people, more greed, less concern for others in the society--this is the capitalism and freedom of America.
