Oct. 26 (Bloomberg)

The yen and euro gained after China’s Financial News said the nation should boost reserves in the currencies. The Beijing- based newspaper, which is affiliated with China’s central bank, said the nation should raise the amount of Japanese and European currencies while keeping the dollar as the main component.

“The Chinese article revived concern over the status of the dollar and triggered knee-jerk selling of the greenback,” said Yuichiro Harada, senior vice president of the foreign- exchange division at Mizuho Corporate Bank Ltd., a unit of Japan’s second-largest lender.

Read his previous pieces, especially where he was bashing mainland EU policies - AND WAS TOTALLY WRONG. Also he often contradicts himself in his other articles (as some have pointed out it here).

Yet when you look at the world there are plenty of countries with abundant natural resources coupled with abundant misery. Look at the oil producing nations. A place like Norway is the exception not the rule.

Hmmm. Do you think that is a coincidence? The main reason, that the US is actively supporting governments that sell natural resources (not just oil) on the cheap. Preferably produced by western companies. Failure to comply results in regime change / military invasion. The current move of Latin America away from the US is the direct result of centuries of this policy. Norway is different, because its population is so low, their own oil consumption is miniscule. And their oil production is falling fast anyway.

It's not just that, there must be kleptocracy culture in the country in which various parties want to seize power (or a dominant party has monpoly power) so as to profit by corrupted means from the country's resources. Norway is a democracy so naturally they are not affected by such manipulation.
