IMHO, in terms of peace the destruction of the Buddhist university / monastery network along the Ganges to the moguls was pretty bad too - far worse for the east than the "dark ages" were to Europe.

AND at the same time, WWII took war-lust out of colonializing Europe. The end of the economics of colonization did a lot too, but the number and extent of Euro-wars after WWII is pretty impressive, compared to what went before. Wasn't until 1998 with Yugoslavia[*] that this ended.
