  • When F1 was COOL............& it had a God!

He was just stunning to watch, nothing has or I think in my case will ever match the power of this man

Re: When F1 was COOL............& it had a God!

Senna was magnificent. But I am of an age to have had the privilege to watch more than a few magnificent F1 drivers. Fittipaldi, Hunt, Lauda, Stewart, Andretti, Piquet (the absolute smoothest F1 race driver ever, like watching liquid flow around the track), and after they built the track when I was living in Bahrain last decade, a new crop of drivers, Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel, Raikkonen and of course Schumacher.

But Ferrari's Gilles Villeneuve, a Canadian, was one of the most exciting to watch during his short, tragic F1 career. I got to watch him drive at Montreal and Long Beach. His overtakes at Monaco were epic.

"His car control was extraordinary, ever compared with the many talented drivers I have had the opportunity to drive against over the years. He drove a Grand Prix car to the absolute limit of its ability." - Jackie Stewart on Gilles

Here's a clip from the 1979 French Grand Prix, battling it out with Rene Arnoux - 3 overtakes, swapping position for 2nd place, in the last 2 laps. When the race was over, Arnoux told the press he knew he had been beaten by a better driver.

Formula E is getting quite interesting and has come a long way, with major manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Jaguar, and Renault coming onboard and learning from the computing gaming industry.

Same with electrics racing at the Isle of Man. What started as a laughingstock for the severely inebriated roadside fans has become as serious as a heart attack.

What we need is a new "Group B" that catches the imagine like the Turbo days in the 80's did.

Run the stage, then 30 mins to re-charge!

I can't think WHY Honda is trying (& failing) to Beat Merc in F1, that's the last war............they should be chasing new tec, Battery Tec/Eletric tec

                https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...and-ev-options

The new tec brings in new things, battery in the centre of the car massive reduction in C of G, recoup system that acts like left foot braking......
Lets hope Solid state is the real deal.
