Public schools chief function was to condition the young to the regimentation of blue collar jobs. On-line schooling - sans clock discipline, in-class behavior discipline, etc. - all workplace necessities - suggests those daze are over. An enormous 'surplus army of workers' (with little industrial employment opportunities) means instructing them in fundamental labor discipline isn't necessary for shift work at the Big Mac. There's plenty, including Grandma and Grandpa, who will take your place if you can't 'fit in'.
