I admire the hell out of Scruggs. He could have played it safe and sat it out but felt he should do something because he could. Just like with Afghanistan today, Scruggs saw the writing on the wall in Vietnam. It has nothing to do with left or right politics. Then as now, people in charge were dragging things out in order to avoid admitting failure.
I'm very confident we would not be in Afghanistan if the draft was in effect. Probably would be out of Korea and Europe too!
Loved Scruggs' banjo playing too!Chalmers Johnson: The 'defense' budget is three quarters of a trillion dollars. Profits went up last year well over 25%. I guarantee you: when war becomes that profitable, we're going to see more of it.
