  • Democrats propose $1.9T increase in debt limit

    My commentary is this:

"WASHINGTON – Senate Democrats on Wednesday proposed allowing the federal government to borrow an additional $1.9 trillion to pay its bills, a record increase that would permit the national debt to reach $14.3 trillion."

What's a few trillion more? I like the fact they were kind enough to keep it below $ 2 trillion. They're always thinking of restraint.

How long will this keep them afloat? Until the next election?

The measure came to the floor under rules requiring 60 votes to pass. That's an unprecedented step that could mean that every Democrat, no matter how politically endangered, may have to vote for it next week before Brown takes office and Democrats lose their 60-vote majority.

1.9 trillion sounds so much less than 2 trillion. Great marketing. Hopefully they can keep the debt to 14.9 trillion. It will sound so much better than 15 trillion.

Yep, nice bill - let's have the official debt ceiling be larger than the US GDP.

We can all see the benefits the last year's manic spending has wrought for the American people...

we all knew it was a fait accompli, but now it's official.

Senate permits gov't to borrow an additional $1.9T

"WASHINGTON (AP) - The Democratic-controlled Senate has muscled through a plan to allow the government to go a whopping $1.9 trillion deeper in debt.

The party-line 60-40 vote was successful only because Republican Sen.-elect Scott Brown has yet to be seated. Sixty votes were required to approve the increase. The measure would lift the debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion. That's about $45,000 for every American. ..."

Re: Democrats propose $1.9T increase in debt limit

Cheney cut him off. "You know, Paul, Reagan proved deficits don't matter," Cheney continued: "We won the midterms (congressional elections). This is our due."

Mr. GOP Which is it? Repbulicans are complete criminal scumbags. When not in power it is the same old smal governemnt, blah blah, and then they spend more then any democrats and spend it on special interests rather than Americans.

                ****************************************

Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill was told "deficits don't matter" when he warned of a looming fiscal crisis.

O'Neill, fired in a shakeup of Bush's economic team in December 2002, raised objections to a new round of tax cuts and said the president balked at his more aggressive plan to combat corporate crime after a string of accounting scandals because of opposition from "the corporate crowd," a key constituency.

O'Neill said he tried to warn Vice President Dick Cheney that growing budget deficits-expected to top $500 billion this fiscal year alone-posed a threat to the economy. Cheney cut him off. "You know, Paul, Reagan proved deficits don't matter," he said, according to excerpts. Cheney continued: "We won the midterms (congressional elections). This is our due." A month later, Cheney told the Treasury secretary he was fired. The vice president's office had no immediate comment, but John Snow, who replaced O'Neill, insisted that deficits "do matter" to the administration.

Bush + Reagan started the destruction and selling out of America

                  Clinton reduced the deficit.

Bush II tried hard to finish off the country.

Obama ? Unless we are going back to the gold standard, needs to spend $$$ on middle class American jobs in order to get the economy going again and cut subsidies and "de-regulation" advatanges on big business.

Taxpayers reduced the deficit and don't you forget it. Clinton just happened to be around when rapid advances in technology and automation produced huge increases in productivity and profits.
