When the dust settles we going to see that this "Flu" was not much worse than any other.

I KNOW how they handed SARS & EBOLA......"They" were not concerned by this early on. Since then the high death rate among Those poor souls in Italy whom were old/heavy smokers/already sick in a remote area of that nation with very small "Cottage" hospitals that have been simply overrun by sudden number of cases.

Also, The medics out there with their strange choice of using drugs to try to lower the high temp fevers. The body raises temps to low the infection & give the body time to form anti-body that can fight the virus. Now they admit that in most cases this was not a smart move.

So, what's going on?
I notice a VERY large transfer of debt, from Private hands to the Public.

If this is a a conspiracy then they have exhibited a degree of competence far in excess of anything I have seen from smoke filled rooms before. The smoke is coming out at jet engine speed:

These "world leaders" can't seem to find their arses in the dark but they can somehow engineer a virus that can kill a million people without anybody noticing.

In the UK 30-35 thousand death's a year to normal Flu, In South Korea the last time I checked they were under 0.6% now its going race up & down numbers wise.
Do remember that the vast number of people who get it, get very little illness or simply none at all.

When this pan's out & the numbers are in we going to find this is slightly worse normal.

It isn't slightly worse. It is 10x or 20x the deaths and the number of people with permanent lung injury is huge. Most of them don't find out about the lung injury until months after when they try to run for the first time.

We are now doing the most extreme form of social isolation and the world economy has all but collapsed. If, after all this, the death rate is about the same as a typical flu, ( and it will not be even close) would you say that the measures worked or that it was all a scam?

Yes, when this moves through the population we'll obtain herd immunity and COVID 19 will have essentially cured itself, becoming one more sort of seasonal flu. But lets look closer at the math starting with your numbers.

You say 82% have no major effects, so 18% do have major effects. We'll go with that.

320,000,000 people in US x 0.66 catching corona at all = 211,000,000 people catching it

211,000,000 people catching COVID 19 x 0.18 having major effects = 38,016,000 people with serious effects

Now lets assume another fraction. Lets assume that among the people who have serious effect, 90 percent of them can treat themselves at home and recover, and only 10 % of them need to be hospitalized.

38,016,000 people with serious corona illness x 0.10 requiring hospitalization = 3,801,600 corona patients hospitalized

The United States has 924,100 total hospital beds, and they stay pretty full with run-of-the-mill problems like cancer and car accidents and heart disease.
There might be 4 corona virus patients trying to get every hospital bed in the US, competing with all other non-corona patients .

Let's make one more assumption. Lets say only 10% of corona patients hospitalized will need to be in intensive care.

3,801,600 hospitalized corona patients x 0.10 ICU cases = 380,160 corona ICU patients.

The US has a total of about 64,000 ICU beds. (there are another 51,000 ICU beds but those are specialized for neonatal or burns or cardiology) So there could be 6 COVID ICU patients competing for every ICU bed, along with the other non-corona patients who need an ICU bed.

Of course these fractions are pulled from thin air by you and I, and the real numbers might be very different. But these rough numbers show why serious people are seriously concerned about this whole thing. Our hospitals can become overwhelmed pretty easily. That's why we are willing to essentially shut down the economy to stretch this thing out over a few extra months so patients can move through the available hospital beds.

If we overwhelm the hospitals the death count gets higher for two reasons. Many of the corona patients who could have been saved won't be saved. Plus many of the non-corona patients who could have been saved won't be saved. The body count grows if we overwhelm the hospitals. We are talking about accepting thousands and thousands of EXTRA dead Americans if we just ignore this to keep business open as usual.

If we shut things down we slow the spread and the hospitals can work through their case load gradually, keeping the body count down to the minimum inevitable number of dead people. Thousands will die regardless, but thousands more will die if we choose to go hands-off.

In the great financial crisis of 2008 /2009 something like ten million americans lost their job.
I don't recall people jumping out of windows or shooting themselves in the head.
Why would they do that now?
