You can never trust a Halfling again.
The National Security Agency (NSA) and UK sister agency GCHQ sought to infiltrate the massive virtual worlds in online video games such as "World of Warcraft" and interactive environments like "Second Life," according to the latest secret documents stolen by Edward Snowden and jointly released by the Guardian, the New York Times and ProPublica.
According to a document titled “Exploiting Terrorist Use of Games & Virtual Environments,” the secretive spy agencies were concerned by potential terrorist use of such games and felt an immediate need to begin analyzing in-game communications as early as 2007.

I posted this in the Allende thread, but better used in this one:

"I posit that terror is now taking a different, more subtle direction. The NSA is now reviewing every post, email, phone call, and whatever communication ordinary citizens have. This happened under Bush and continues at an even higher level under Obama. It is of course for "our protection" from terrorists.

The great danger is that governments have gotten too large and will try to control more facets of our lives. Freedom and the constitution are being subverted.
Citizens will need to take a stand."

I'm no fan of excessive surveillance, but massive multiplayer games DO provide a means for naughty folks to communicate with a possibly reduced risk of state interception.

Asymmetric/irregular warfare trade craft using the internet is very real.

But if we weren't able to stop pre internet trade craft such as numbers stations and load/unload signals, what makes us think we will be able to stop the bulk of internet enabled trade craft?
