Faber recommends a farm for the next war, because a bomb is more likely to fall on a city than a farm.

It's good that the farming from the 50's & 60's is over

Planting Fields of ICBMs

In farm fields all across rural America during the late 50s and 60s, the U.S. Air Force was planting a new crop -- Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, or ICBMs, tipped with nuclear warheads. To keep up with a perceived "missile gap" with the Soviet Union, the Air Force was working feverishly build underground launch complexes and get missiles in them. It was an effort that involved billions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of workers, thousands of acres of land and more than 2,000 companies across America.

A little home near Chiang Mai is not a bad idea either. :D

I read somewhere how a few people have bought those cavernous missile silos and converted them into super cool "lofts" underground. Of course the prairie neighborhood is not exactly "chic urban loftdweller" but still apparently one could buy them really cheaply a few years ago. Reinforced concrete structures built to last 300 years, cavernous space, fabulous insulation as you are below ground. No noisy neighbors. Now all we need is a nation powered by Jetsons flying scooters and such a domicile would be the last word in chic. The only unsettling thing might be "the echo" living inside one of those launch tubes. But still, just crank up some Duke Ellington and it would be pretty cool.

If you have real gold, people would only know you have it if you tell them. Put it in a glass jar in your attic. :D

U.K. to spend 12 bln pounds to spy on calls and e-mails - paper
11:04 | 05/ 10/ 2008

LONDON, October 5 (RIA Novosti) - The U.K. authorities are considering spending up to 12 billion pounds ($21 billion) on a database to keep information on Internet intercepts, e-mail and telephone records of everyone in Britain, The Sunday Times reported.

U.K. officials say live monitoring is necessary to fight terrorism and crime. However, critics have doubts about whether such a vast system can be kept secure, the paper said.

The British security service MI5 currently conducts limited e-mail and website intercepts only under warrants from the home secretary, the paper said.

According to The Sunday Times, the government's eavesdropping center, GCHQ, has already been allocated 1 billion British pounds ($21 billion) to finance the first stage of the project.

I'm not sure but I saw him say it on TV. Mind you he does have a sense of humour. It was just a part of a bit of doom and glooming.
