I think we will look back at these metals prices in a few months or years and wish we could go back and buy. So I'm going to do it. I currently have about 5% of my portfolio in physical gold and 1.5% in physical silver. My plan is to put an additional 4% into physical metals today, probably 3% gold and 1% silver, but I'm open to suggestions.
Does anyone want to share their opinion of a good way allocate between the PMs? Eagles vs Maple Leafs vs numismatics? I currently have no platinum, palladium or junk silver. Thanks.
Also tempted to buy more miners but I think I'll hold off.

Personally I prefer Mexican Gold currency (Centenarios (http://www.tulving.com/bullion/Mexican50PesoGold.html), Aztecas (http://www.usagold.com/gold/coins/mexican-20.html) and Hidalgos (http://www.usagold.com/gold/coins/mexican-10.html), in that order), since the premium is minimal.
For you, it depends on tastes, Krugs are cheaper than Maples or Buffalos any day...

BTW, I never got around to buying those metals. Y'know, a week ago. Before gold went up 25%. Yeah.

I prefer 90 percent junk silver (jfk halves, if I can get them). I paid 9.75 x spot which is a bit higher premium than I expected, but it was a local neighborhood coin shop so there was no shipping cost. He also had Silver eagles for $18, which is a lot cheaper than paying $25 on E-bay!

Surely you don't mean "9.75 x spot". How much did you pay for the halves and why do you prefer them over eagles?

No, I got busy with regular life and then gold went up 20%. If we get back down below $800 again I will buy some. I'm still eying silver Eagles below $15, if I can actually get them. I have bought through Blanchard before, and people around here recommend APMEX, but their inventory is spotty from what I can see.

Don't worry, I tried to get a bunch of Libertad's on last Wednesday, but the store had an electricity failure and they couldn't open the safe, Couldn't go later and then had to go out of town for the rest of the week... Today each Libertad is 23 pesos (MXN) costlier than wednesday...
