There is NOTHING more optimal for him than the present situation:

1) Too new to have skeletons
2) Outgoing term limit President is the most hated head of US state since Nixon
3) Economy sucks
4) Geezer running against him is chip off the old block
5) Money running out of his ears

Even if McCain has a disastrous presidency, Obama's failing to win a 'sure thing' is going to doom him. He is not the type of operator that Nixon was to be able to run again - especially since the next time around Hilary will be saying: "I told you so"
