Good news. "We put our best people on it"* and finally figured out what the server busy problem was, we hope.

Please let us know if you see more errors.

Thanks for your patience!

* This is an EJ expression he'll maybe explain to you sometime.

This morning around 2 am PST I clicked on "new posts" proceeded to open five threads in tabs. All of them opened up with server busy problem messages. I reloaded them a couple of minutes later and encounterned no more problems.

Thanks for letting us know. Is the problem better or worse, in your opinion?

Since your note of best people being on the problem, I've not gotten one busy server message.

The problem seems to be better, but this is the first day that I've read Itulip in about a week.

A few weeks back I was getting the server busy message nearly everytime I visited the site, no matter what time of day.

Just out of curiousity, who was working on it before you put the "best people" on it?

EJ writes in:
The expression comes from the time I was brought in by VCs to run a company that, as it turned out, had no viable product. When customers complained that the product did not seem work, in fact broke their own products, my very capable head of operations who was in charge of providing back-up to Sales in the event that tensions between a customer and company escalated, would say in her most assuring tone on a conference call, "We have our best people working on it." We'd then mute the phone while the room erupted in laughter, not at the expense of the customer but at the absurdity of the situation. Before I got to the company many impossible product capabilities had been promised to customers. The customers' expectations were hopelessly high and could never be met.

"We have our best people working on it" means there is no hope of ever fixing the problem. That said, we have made some improvements with server reliability. The problem stems from the software we are using for this forum. We are resigned to the fact that we will always have some performance problems, as do all of these platforms to one degree or another at one time or another. We aim for improvement over time but do not promise permanent resolution.

<HR>If you are the webmaster, your account may have gotten this error for one or more of the following reasons:

Your account has used more than its share of the cpu in the past 60 second sliding window.
Your account has too many concurrent processes running simultanously.
Your account has consumed too much memory.
Your site was recently very busy trying to run inefficient scripts.
The solution would be to optimize your applications to use less CPU.
Adding appropriate indeces to your SQL tables can often help reduce CPU.
Using static .html documents instead of painful .php scripts will practically eliminate CPU usage.
