I told her to at the end of 2006. Now she wishes she had. Stocks are falling hard. Gold looks brighter :D

I think it is an interesting capitulation. Not particularly noteworthy...but it is a matter of time when investment advisors start telling people to pile in. It will happen. Maybe this year...

When do you think the next PM "bubble" will begin?

So far gold is down since Friday.

But the Fed will cut on Tuesday and that might boost gold. At least that is my spiel.

Go gold go! :D

Gold may do well overall this year, but it is just as subject to market panics as the rest of the universe.

A major speculative interest entered the gold market in 2007. Hard to say which way they'll take it short term. Our analysis is that down $700 to $750 is in the realm of possibility. We expect gold stocks will get hammered along with every other stock in the debt deflation bear, which is one of the reasons we don't do gold mining stocks.

OK Fred could you give a date and time it may hit 700? That would help me pay the new costs. Thanks

Well, I can see bullion temporarily hitting $760, sure.

Junior miners have been awful for the past 6 - 18 months in general.

However, I think they will come back and start doing great but it could be 12 months from now.

Patience is a necessity when investing in those puppies.

Our track record of short term price targets isn't very good so we don't try. Our motto on short term estimates of prices: "Give 'em a date or give 'em a price but don't give 'em both!" We do better at the long term.

As we saw today, central banks HAVE to reflate. Can they do so without debasing their nation's currencies? We doubt it.

that would be some trick, ehh?

But what do you think about people predicting this for February 31, at 3:00fm?

as an inflationist, if you don't buy gold, what would you buy?

He didn't say he didn't buy gold. He said he didn't buy "gold mining stocks". Two different animals.

My problem is most of my savings is in a retirement account, so gold isn't an option. If I don't do mining stocks I'll probably have to go with treasuries or TIPS.

So far mining stocks have held up, but I'm nervous.

well in the last bear market mining stocks were awesome. But at first they behave like other stocks...before they break out on their own. That's the story I'm sticking to anyway :p

Yes, but was that a regular bear market, or a "Debt Deflation Bear Market"? :D

My personal exposure to mining stocks has become a bit bloated, so I'm trimming my sails today. I'm torn, since the xau/gold ratio is so high, but I don't want to get burned too badly as the market tanks. I'll still have quite a bit.

The more I hang around here, though, the more convinced I am that betting against iTulip is a losing proposition.
