When the U.S. gov't starts bailing out or at least helping out these types of companies (instead Goldman Sachs, Citi, etc.), we will know the worm has started to turn and as a nation we have finally started to invest in our Production Economy.

Not holding my breath for the short or even medium term (too many vested interests - Wall Street, military-industrial complex, etc.), but over the long term, we will have no choice if we want to continue as a "world power". So I think it will eventually happen.

It seems the US has been caught by surprise by the rapid advancement of countries like Taiwan and China. Government planning isn't supposed to out compete US ingenuity and the US still has export restrictions on this sector like they're trying to ensure only the US gets the benefit of the US' tech.

The US government does have a plan: make it a pain in the ass to employ people in industry.

The Chinese, in contrast, have made it increasingly easy for entrepreneurs to employ labor.

Funny how wild-west capitalism is working -- in the east.
