I just had a procedure done on my eye due to a detaching retina.
Seems to be going well, but the interesting anecdote: I received a 30% discount for paying cash (actually credit card). This made more sense than any other option - but is interesting since it might imply that insurance/processing costs eat up that much of normal charges.
It might also (or instead) imply that the government health program payments system is similarly skewed.
