As you know, I have been seriously considering running for U.S. Senate against Chris Dodd.
Everywhere you turn there is evidence of just how bad our economy is getting. Growing unemployment, families that are struggling to put food on the table, and retirees that are having to make the choice between doing without or joining the millions of others that are looking for a job. Unfortunately, many of our economic woes have been created by government intervention and politicians who believe themselves to be economic “experts.”
I believe that my experience and qualifications would make me well-suited to serve Connecticut, especially during a time when Washington needs fewer career politicians and more people with real-world financial experience that can be a voice of reason and help prevent the continued intrusion of government into our lives, jobs, and pocketbooks.

Perhaps Schiff has realized the easiest way to make the most money is to be in the upper house of your government, plus no or few taxes if one is really slick.

Am yet to see an article, may have missed it, that compares what US politicians rip off compared to what the British MP's were so far caught ripping off. Surely Brits can't come close to comparing with American political ingenuity, that is my guess.

I know this sounds just like President Obama's pitch in 2008, but bear with me.

Many of our economic woes have been created by government intervention and politicians who believe themselves to be economic “experts,” rather than self-promoting, ego-centric, media whores with a degree in economics such as myself.

I believe that my experience and qualifications as a narcissistic attention seeker who is too busy sucking up to the media and making youtube videos to manage his clients' investments so they do not lose money (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123327685671031439.html) makes me well-suited to serve Connecticut.

This is especially true during a time when Washington needs fewer career politicians and more people with real-world experience in business. I have run a brokerage that loses my clients' money. I relentlessly exploit naive libertarians with a simplistic line of free market patter. All to make money for me, Peter Schiff. That's me. But not for anyone else.

Yes, I have made a lot of money this way, but public office will allow me to use my personality to keep on sucking money from others but on much larger scale.

Not sure if you know this, but Euro Pacific Capital is a business. Not only that, but the piece you linked is from January 2009. If someone were to have invested with EPC, I'm fairly certain their return would be higher than anyone who invested with a run-of-the-mill investment firm.

Of course Schiff is a narcissist, but name a politician who isn't!

As everyone with over an hour browsing time on iTulip knows, government creates nothing. I don't think even the more socialist leaning folks here have tried to support that idea. It can regulate and direct but create?...sorry, not even woe.

Since I'm an entrepreneur, a business owner with a bottom line and a payroll to meet, I find little difference between either of them and I'd prefer the buffoonery of Dowd to the stupidity of Schiff. Schiff is apparently saying that government shouldn't intervene but any woes we've had have come mostly from a lackluster government afraid to intervene. At least Dowd is just trying to get along. That's all I expect from politicians.

I've said before that business people are in it for the kill. We would not take the risks we take without the need to take down our opponents. When government gets in our way we find ways around it. When they support our goals we're still looking for an angle, a way to game the playground.

The job of government is to set well thought out guidelines that match the will of the populace and create regulations that are well understood. They don't do that. The Schiffs of the world want to pretend that we need them to help us create business, we don't. I find Schiff worse than useless.

Those crazy dreamers, Washington, Jefferson and Adams. I'm re-reading the Adams/Jefferson letters for maybe the 5th time and it helps to keep me grounded as I and my associates work to build our new business. The government is structure, we are content. If they abdicate their structural support job, we'll offer to do both but it's only in our self interest. Unfortunately, that's where we are today.

Well, I certainly disagree with you, but it would appear that we are coming from two entirely different perspectives. You see the government as not involved enough, while I see it as far too pervasive. In principle though, you seem to agree with Schiff almost exactly.

Guess your business hasn't been put on the skids for political reasons yet.

Now all you guys taking pot shots at Schiff are overlooking one thing: There is no infallible candidate for political office. It's always a contest of 'less bad'. Any realistic argument against Schiff would therefore have to show the alternative is better. The closest we've come so far boils down to a personal preference for bigger government, but considering the shape this country is in after growing government for a century the burden of persuasion looks pretty steep.
